Equality Monitoring form online

A while ago, many of you very kindly returned the Equality Monitoring form which was sent with a mailout. If you haven’t already, you can now fill in this form online.

In April 2010 The Equality Act came into being, this was new legislation introduced by the government which aims to prevent discrimination. Part of this new legislation requires all public bodies to collect certain information about the people that use their services. This new standardised approach to equality monitoring applies to all public bodies throughout the UK, this includes local authorities, the NHS, Universities and us.

Complying with the requirements of the Equality Act is a condition of many kinds of funding, for example the funding we received form Bradford Council last year which we used for development and also to help us to see if there are any groups out there that might need more support to join and benefit from BDCU services.

From October 1st 2011 we have been routinely asking for this information from new members as they join. Under the legislation everyone has the right to refuse to answer which is perfectly fine, as long as the question has been asked.

Changing jobs

A number of Credit Union members have recently been under the impression that leaving the Council meant leaving the Credit Union as their savings come out of payroll automatically.

Changing a job is stressful at the best of times so it's reassuring to know that you can stay with us through your change in career. All you have to do is download a standing order form and return it to the office, and your savings will continue to build up – worry free.

Often, a change of job means additional expenses, so don't forget you can temporarily reduce your savings to the minimum (£3 per week waged / £1 per week unwaged) to get you through that tricky patch.

Whatever life throws at you it's nice to know that your Credit Union is here through thick and thin.

Loyalty loans now available to former Education Bradford staff

Bradford Council staff who were formerly part of Education Bradford are now eligible for the Credit Union's new Loyalty Loan. The Loyalty Loan scheme offers low value loans to payroll members who have previously held a loan with BDCU Ltd and have not had any arrears against that loan. The scheme enables these applications to be processed more readily and is supported by the members’ previous history with the Credit Union and their payment by payroll deduction.
