BDCU AGM Celebrates Growth, Community Impact and New Leadership

BDCU welcomed members to its Annual General Meeting, opened by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Mohammed Shafiq who praised our ongoing commitment to communities across the district. His support and continued collaboration were warmly acknowledged by the Board and senior leadership team.

The AGM highlighted another strong year for BDCU, with the organisation exceeding all key areas for the third consecutive year. More than £3m in new lending was delivered, taking the total loan book beyond £5m and marking 100% growth. With over 1,000 new members joining during the year, total membership has now risen to more than 11,000 people across Bradford, Kirklees and Craven. Savings have increased to over £6.5m and member retention has reached 73 per cent, positioning BDCU for further sustainable growth.

BDCU also received national recognition, winning Lender of the Year and reaching the finalist stage in the Consumer Awards for Best Credit Union in the North with members voting for us 4.8 out of 5. Staff achievements were celebrated too with Mentor of the Year and Regional Apprentice of the Year awards reflecting BDCU’s commitment to developing its people and strengthening its values-led culture.

The organisation delivered a refreshed brand and a more accessible website, alongside significant progress in IT transformation, which will continue throughout 2026 bringing many benefits to members and provide structure for our growth in the years to come.

This year’s AGM marked the transition from Julian O’Neil, who stepped down as Chair after more than a decade of service to incoming Chair Ian Goodliffe. Members expressed their thanks to Julian for his leadership through challenging times and welcomed Ian warmly as he takes the organisation into its next phase of growth.

BDCU also presented a £250 donation to The Cellar Trust, a longstanding partner and recognising their important work supporting people in their mental health across the district.

With strong performance, sustained investment and a clear focus on community impact, BDCU enters 2026 with confidence and a renewed commitment to building financial wellbeing for the people of Bradford.
