NATIONAL FOODBANK DAY 2026

National foodbank day 2026

This National Foodbank Day, we’re celebrating the organisations that make a real difference in our communities.

At BDCU, we’re proud to work alongside partners including The Welcome Centre in Kirklees, Bradford North Foodbank and the FoodSavers Network. Every day, these organisations help local people access affordable food, practical support and a welcoming community when they need it most.

While food banks provide vital emergency support, food pantries offer a sustainable way for many households to make their money go even further. By accessing low-cost food and household essentials, families can free up money for other important expenses and build greater financial resilience.

Three Tips to Help Reduce Your Food Spending.

  • Plan before you shop.: Take a few minutes to plan meals for the week and check what you already have at home. Shopping with a list can help reduce food waste and prevent impulse purchases.

  • Make the most of leftovers: Cooking extra portions and freezing meals can save both time and money, while also reducing the temptation to buy more expensive convenience foods.

  • Find local community support: Food pantries and community food projects can be a great way to access affordable food, stretch your budget further and connect with local support networks.

  • Building Savings Alongside Affordable Food: Through our partnership with the FoodSavers Network, members can contribute £6 towards their food shopping, with £1 automatically deposited into a BDCU savings account. This helps members build a savings habit while benefiting from reduced food costs. New members joining BDCU through FoodSavers also receive a £10 FoodSavers incentive to kick-start their savings journey.

Meet BDCU at Darley Street Market

You can meet the BDCU team on the last Wednesday of every month at Darley Street Market, BD1 3AW, where we’re working in partnership with the FoodSavers Network to support local people with savings, budgeting and financial wellbeing.

National Foodbank Day is also an opportunity to give back. Whether it’s volunteering, donating food or helping raise awareness, every contribution helps support the incredible work being done by organisations such as The Welcome Centre, Bradford North Foodbank and the FoodSavers Network.

At BDCU, we know that strong communities are built when people support each other, and we’re proud to stand alongside partners working every day to tackle food insecurity across Bradford and Kirklees.
