World Humanitarian Day and Your Money
As we observe Humanitarian Day, it’s important to reflect on how we can contribute to the well-being of our community.
At BDCU, we believe that one of the most powerful forms of humanitarianism is empowering individuals through financial education. By equipping people with the knowledge and tools to manage their finances effectively, we can help build stronger, more resilient community.
Why Financial Literacy Matters?
Financial literacy is more than just understanding how to manage money; ultimately, it’s about empowerment.
Unfortunately, many in our community lack access to basic financial education, which can lead to debt, poor credit, and financial stress.
By providing financial education, we can help individuals:
- Avoid high-interest debt and predatory lending.
- Plan ahead for major life events, such as buying a home or retiring.
- Build savings for emergencies and future goals.
- Manage their money in a way that aligns with their values and priorities.
Real Stories, Real Impact
BDCU have a radio show helping people understand money in a half hour show. You can catch up on past programmes here: https://bdcu.co.uk/bdcu-launches-money-sos-radio-show/
We’ve seen first-hand how financial education can transform lives. A new member John was struggling with credit card debt on high interest and didn’t know where to turn. Through our Money SOS he learnt about APR and the consolidation loans BDCU have transferred his high interest debt to BDCU to save money AND build savings, As a BDCU member he is planning for a secure future.
These are the stories that inspire us and remind us of the importance of our work. Every day, we strive to provide the tools and support our members need to achieve financial independence.
Get Involved: Be a Part of the Solution
