Happy International Children’s Book Day

At BDCU, we know that reading helps kids learn and grow in many different ways and that’s why we love celebrating International Children’s Book Day!

This year, we’re excited to talk about Deane Narayn – Lee an author who has written an inspirational book for primary school-aged children. Telling the story of how humans have affected the world’s climate over time, it’s a great read for home, school and anywhere else!

Deane Narayn said: ” The story enables conversation about climate change. Hopefully, stories such as mine can inspire the next generation to protect our planet in the future.”

On a broader note, Deane is a passionate advocate of promoting literacy in Bradford. Having a sound grasp of numeracy and literacy will provide the foundations for the life skills required in today’s society.

Teachers and parents, meanwhile, say the book makes complicated ideas easy to understand and fun to read.

If you’d like to find out what all the fuss is about, you can explore the book here: The Loving Earth

Our Community Development team actually had the pleasure of meeting Deane, who volunteers for Bradford Nightsop, alongside Bradford’s Lord Mayor, Beverley Mullaney, last Christmas!

It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up, celebrate our collaboration and offer advent calendars and BDCU tote bags to support emergency accommodation provider Nightstop’s members, in recognition of the incredible initiatives they provide as an organisation.

Nightstop’s commitment to offering temporary shelter, food and support to young people aligns perfectly with our values at BDCU and we’re proud to work together with them and Deane to foster strong relationships that benefit our community.

Join us in celebrating the power of children’s books and the positive impact they have on young minds today!
